Welcome to the January Handwaved CR & AU workshop for Kaisou! We're super excited to have you! These posts are to help encourage old and new players to make new connections and find potential CR while designing your AU or figuring out what your OU character has been up to. If you're brand news, you can check out FAQ page and the app page to get a sense of what's going on!

If you're a player looking to app a new character:
Apps are always open for submission and get done the first and third weekends of the month. So once you got a clear idea of what you want, feel free to hop over to the application page! If you're already in the game, feel free to comment to this post as well to make new CR!

A reminder that in order to app either a Black Order or POKEGO AU you are required to have been in the game at least 3 months with another character. If you are rejoining the game after being gone awhile, you can count your past stint towards your 3 months, but it's recommended you look over the plot recap to see what you missed.

About: On first glance, the Duke looks like a no-nonsense man with sharp eyes and a stern expression. The fact that he dresses like a prison warden and carries handcuffs on his hip doesn't help. However, when speaking, the man becomes clear as a rather down-to-earth guy with a warm voice and a calming presence, like an old dog who you can trust to keep you safe while baring its fangs to any who might threaten him.
In his own world, he's a criminal-turned-Warden for a giant underwater fortress that functions both as a prison and its own society. His crime was the murder of his foster parents who had actually been human traffickers, so it's easy to forget the easygoing duke is actually someone who would kill without any hesitation if he felt it necessary.

In Kaisou, he's managed through the help of the others in the city, to be able to reclaim the fortress of Meropide that has appeared in the city's harbour, and he's been working hard since its liberation to establish it as a place where those displaced from their own world--like himself--can come and live stress-free without the discomfort of taking free housing from Zodiac or choosing to live in the woods or something.

Looking for: Despite how amicable and friendly the Duke acts, the truth is, he's pretty socially awkward and doesn't like too much attention. He enjoys his alone time and prefers listening to people talk instead of talking himself--but he's not entirely opposed to the idea of making new friends. Especially now that he feels responsible for all those who have chosen to live in his fortress to turn it back into the bustling hub town it was in his previous world.
He loves nothing more than a good cup of tea and fighting--well. Maybe alongside tinkering with the fascinating technology this world has to offer. While he's no engineer or blacksmith, he loves taking things apart--learning how they work--and putting them back together in more interesting and useful ways.

If you'd like to handwave meeting him--either by seeing him out in the city, or during a character's foray into the Fortress--he's pretty active when he's not hiding away in his office or playing home-maker with his two partners out in the city. Neither of the Immortals he lives with can cook or clean or--

Handwaved meetings with the duke are also fun too--be it in the Pankration arena to have a spar, or down in the forge and robot factory in the basement. Taking visitors in his office to discuss stories of his life back on Teyvat or discussing things about this world are things that interest him--you'll probably just have to drink tea with him, too. His collection is expansive.

Don't talk about Christmas unless you want to be there for hours. Thanks to a Curse he got last year, he only recently learned that he's also an immortal--and a Christmas Elf at that. He's still wrapping his brain around that.
It's fine. Santa is his friend now.

Okay so HEAR ME OUT. If Wrio has the sheer patience to attempt to teach Knuckles how to hold back and pull his punches, he could probably introduce the kid to boxing eventually--

if there's something the Duke has in nines, it's patience.

he'll probably tell knuckles about the idea of the Prankration arena--fistfights that are more like sports rather than to utterly destroy your opponent. A fight of skill rather than raw strength.

It might take some time to fully sell the kid on the idea (because boy does he love to fight and he's nothing if not proud of his power) but!! A goal to work towards perhaps?

ALSO since you have some many characters doing a comment for each is a hassle, just ASSUME Ritsuka probably visits/hangs out with/etc various of yours she knows as she always has!

I feel like Jun and Wriothesley see each other a fair amount since Jun's in the fortress, but since both of them are introverted and understand that about each other - conversations are mostly kept to business-related matters and the occasional pleasant chat.

Jun will also sometimes leave him stuff he came across on trips into the city and the Spirit Realm that he thinks the Duke would find interesting - like devices to tinker with and tea blends from when he visits his dad. Jun makes no real acknowledgement of this and just mostly leaves stuff on Wrio's desk.

it's nice having someone who understands your social awkwardness and doesn't try to push it too hard. wriothesley doesnt have favorite but jun is his favorite

when Jun drops things off, he'll find small notes left either in the cafeteria kitchen on the whiteboard or on the meropide message board that express his thanks--or he'll get into the habit of leaving a small cloche of covered tea cookies on his desk for jun to take from whenever he drops off some things.

Maxima would stop by Wrio's office pretty regularly just to update him on the status of various Fortress things, if he hasn't seen Wrio there in person - he's not super chatty himself or anything, but he definitely believes in the value of keeping clear lines of communication, and as one of the older people living there with more organizational experience than most, he's sort of instinctively taking it on himself to be a coordinator. At the end of the day, they are living in a fortress, and it has been attacked before, so...it's just better to feel prepared for anything, right?

back in teyvat, wriothesley got used to running the fortress mostly on his own, with a little clerical help from neuvillette. having someone trustworthy who can help him with everything is a godsend he didn't realise he needed--and one he's come to enjoy.

what with the door to Yggdrasil in the basement, extra security and being secure is 100% a necessity so he appreciates everything maxima does. maxima gets regular invites for discussing business over tea where he likely gets to listen to the duke ramble about blends sometimes too, sorry.

Varian probably runs into Wrio plenty in the Fortress! He's probably invited him down into the forge to help him get started on actually BUILDING things as well as tinkering. He really did mean it when he said he'd give him support and help in figuring out how to do it.

Persephone drops by his office a couple times a week for tea and a catch up! She considers him a dear friend and always asks after him and whatever updates he wants to share with her. She likes his company!

back in teyvat, wriothesley had two engineers under his employ that were madmen tinkerers and definitely were in love. varian sort of makes wriothesley feel that this kid is exactly what one of their future children would be like and it delights him and makes him feel a little at home.

they helped him build his giant airship, so having varian here and pushing him gently to make his own creations instead of frankenstien'ing them together to make something new. he's currently trying to create an engine for a car that can react with his ice powers...


wriothesley is one of the most ordinary people from teyvat and the idea of gods being chill with ordinary people is still something he's absolutely not used to, but. the more he talks to persephone and the more he gets to know her, the more he realises gods really are just people too. she's helping him get over his uncertainty about gods, which is honestly something he really needs.
