January Plotting & CR Post

Hello everyone! It's time for the announcement and plotting post for January!

OOC Housekeeping

• The Zodiac Network Post will go up January 1st, with a midmonth post going up January 15th. An event log will be posted on January 4th.
• If you haven't already, please remember to check in for activity! Activity is due by the end of the month!
• The Price of Gacha pulls have changed! It is now 2 pulls for every 1 point.
• If you haven't already redeem your free gacha pulls for December, remember to do so! Last day to claim gacha will be December 31st at the closure of office hours (4pm EST)
• A big thank you to everyone who participated in Secret Santa! Every participant completed their Secret Santa task, so great job on that! That said if you were missed and DIDN'T receive a Secret Santa, please contact the mod team ASAP.
• Just a reminder for anyone who hasn't joined yet, but we have a game discord for current players! It's completely optional to join, but come in and say hi!

World Changes

Side quests
Sidequests for January are now available! December quests are now no longer available to sign up for, but you can redeem quest logs for gacha points. Please head to the old post to redeem any quests from December or earlier.

Also starting today with January side quests, the quest reward has been up to 2 gacha pulls per side quest thread that's been turned in!

New Year, New Posts
As we enter Kaisou's third year, we will be updating some of the OOC paperwork posts! We do this on an annual basis to posts that garner a lot of comment traffic as dreamwidth posts tend to start having issues once it reaches a certain number of comments. Plus, some posts just need to be updated as they get cluttered with outdated information.

The following posts have ALREADY received a new post:

Applications. We've also increased the amount of points new characters receive either during the apping process or upon acceptance. OUs will get 6 points for retaining abilities (plus being allowed to keep some items and their appearance), Paranormal AUs will get 9 points for their AU backstory, Normal AUs will get 9 bonus points upon app approval, and Black Order/POKEGO AUs will get 20 points. We like to boost the starter points once a year in order to help combat the power gap brand new characters and characters who've been here long enough to acquire a LOT of regain points.

The following WILL receive a new post within the next week:

REGAINS: Regains is in the process of receiving a new post. At this time, regains are undergoing maintenance and will not be available to comment to until Thursday when the first round of Activity Check is concluded. We thank you for your patience.

ACTIVITY CHECK: After two years, you've probably noticed the intense amount of lag the old post gets. So we'll be updating to a new post for 2024. We ask that for December AC, you still comment to the old AC post. However once you get checked in for AC, you will be given instructions and the link to the new AC post to set up your top-level. Please do not check in for January AC until the actual month of January.

POKEGO Update
It's been a quiet month for POKEGO! There isn't much in the ways of update, but they will be asked to help with investigations of the upcoming event.

Black Order Update
If you've lost your mind or have committed a crime, recruitment for the Black Order is now available!

As for the mission for January, the Black Order is continuning to amp up it's interest in Kaisou. As such, the higher ups will be requesting information about each of the Warriors of Light and FFXIV characters that are within their game. Stuff like basic background, abilities, general temperament - the works. They are particularly interested in any connections they might have to the Crystal Tower.

City Events
January is a Water element month, and since it's the middle of winter- you can expect things to be extremely cold. Many days will be in the single digits if not below zero (Fahrenheit). As per annual tradition, the city will be holding a winter carnival that includes ice fishing, games at the Gold Saucer, and even an ice palace with an ice inn should you wish to sleep in the cold.

Spirit Realm Event: Crystal Tower
January's Spirit Realm Event will be based on Final Fantasy! The Crystal Tower from FFXIV will be showing up in the middle of Central Square. It'll be up to Libra app users to clear out the tower of any dangers as well as unlock any puzzles within. This plot will contain many elements from the Final Fantasy franchise ranging from sphere puzzles, triad card tournaments, and doing an opera performance.

Notably, the Crystal Tower will remain in Kaisou after the plot is over, and is open to be used as a potential place to convert into PC housing or to study the tower to help with solutions for the "falling into the spirit realm" problem, though both things will take longer than just January to prepare.

Final Note
Finally, Yuff here with a quick note. This plot marks the third anniversary of Kaisou! Three years ago, I started Kaisou as a place to RP with friends, but I wasn't sure how long it'd last. Thanks to every player in this game, former and current, it's reached it's third year and is still going strong. So I want to thank every single one of you guys. It's been an absolute joy rping with everyone, and modding the game (and an extra thank you to the mod team for helping). I really look forward to seeing what 2024 has in store!

Event Plans: Along with helping investigate (aka standing around and supervising) he's still an apprentice so I imagine he's going to be doing stuff like working on maps or Pokemon daycare if there's a need... He's going to get some papers and 'reapply' for his role as a history professor too, but he won't start teaching again until February.

About: Blade is a blacksmith and craftsman of undisputable genius, but that comes at a cost. Immortality drove him mad in his past life. In this one, he's both fiery and goth, and sporting a fun demon possession who seals his memories and feeds on his misery (and blood).
Event Plans: Blade is not going to have anything to do with the Tower. Instead, he will be succumbing to demon possession and menacing people. During the second half of the month he will not be responding to messages or checking in like normal, and his moments of lucidity and sanity will be very rare. Eventually he is going to kill some NPCs. This will culminate in a team of Blade's CR (+ some Black Order people) tracking him down, entering his demon's labyrinth, and either killing his demon or killing Blade so that he no longer has to deal with the murderer in his head.

The consequences of this will be that Blade will be conscripted to join the Black Order. :D

So I meant to follow up on the christmas gift thing and then totally forgot but! Since Ritsuka has basically no sewing skills she'd definitely appreciate him doing that for her, but also she uh. kind of accidentally got cursed in the middle of the month and since her control is less than perfect she tends to end up stuck with a tail. Which is to say if August would also be up for some relatively simple commissions of modifying stuff to accommodate a tail he'd probably be the first person she'd think to check with!

Event Plans: Undecided beyond the fact that it's pretty near impossible to keep her from at least investigating. So she'll definitely be doing something, even if I haven't figured out what yet!

About: rookie cop walks into a zombie apocalypse on the first day of his job! it traumatizes him for the rest of his life and also means he gets signed up not quite willingly for a government job for much of his adulthood. at least he saved the president's daughter tho?

in this AU, Leon is now a private eye with experience in having faced off against demons who besieged his precinct when he was a rookie on the first week of the job. he's still deeply traumatized and he's still not quite willingly signed up for the Black Order job. he's aware of the parallels. thanks.
Event Plans: Leon is def going to do the bare minimum and just, like. ask the WOLs if they wanna join the Black Order. no? cool ok. he will be putting in just the barest minimum into the mission this month and then significantly more into like, checking out the new tower in the middle of town, like wtf.

About: the sweet ingenue who dies bc some creeplord vampire keeps sneaking into her room to take bites out of her neck, and then she turns into a vampire herself and has to be staked before she can turn somebody else. she is also well-known for being so hot three people fell in love with her.

AU Lucy is still a sweet ingenue to some degree, working as a late-night radio show host! she just is fully aware of her past self's fate and does not want to meet it as well, and in her desperation to avoid it accidentally let herself be possessed by a demon. whoops.
Event Plans: she's moving into her new/old house in Brick Alley! so that will be taking up basically all her time for this month. she's chilling, you guys.

About: If you live in Kaisou and aren't an NPC (with the exception of some NPCs) you got a sardine from Valvatorez despite the fact that he shouldn't know your address. That little fact alone says about all you need to know about this bombastic sardine-loving vampire, but if you need more; Val is stubborn, friendly, incredibly loud and positive, and is absolutely obsessed with sardines.
Event Plans: Not much tbh. He'll probably just be working on training the prinnies and lending a hand if it's needed. Though he's not from Final Fantasy, he's still a RPG protagonist.
