Hello everyone! It's time for the announcement and plotting post for January!

OOC Housekeeping

• The Zodiac Network Post will go up January 1st, with a midmonth post going up January 15th. The game wide event log will go up January 4th.
• If you haven't already, please remember to check in for activity! Activity is due by the end of the month.
• Just a reminder for anyone who hasn't joined yet, but we have a game discord for current players! It's completely optional to join, but come in and say hi!

Side quests
New Side Quests have been added for the month of January! Go ahead and sign up! If you haven't turned in quests for December gacha points, you can still do so until the end of the month! However, signing up for any December quests is now closed.

Starting this month, we'll be introducing Titles as an element to side quests! On specific quests, depending on how the quest goes and the level of effort the character puts into the quest, they may earn a title (like "Bruce the Wrathful") that they will become known by in certain NPC rings (Undertown, Spirit Realm occupants, certain factions). These titles may also come with a perk (like a discount on certain stores). While you can earn multiple titles, you can only have one perk active at a time.

Kaisou is now one years old!
As of this month, Kaisou has now hit it's one year anniversary! I want to take a moment to thank everyone who joined and contributed to this game, as at the end of the day a game is nothing without its players. When I started this game, I just wanted to make a fun space for people to play at a relaxed place, and you guys have really helped make that dream into a reality. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

That said this month marks the kick-off of the year two plot! While year one meta plot focused on the "who done it" mystery of what caused the abnormalities, this year will be focusing on dealing with a Spirit Realm that's had it's barrier weaken enough that it's causing a real effect on Kaisou at large.

Due to it being a new year, the regain and app page have been changed to new ones. Also the FAQ has had some minor updates, and we've added a Plot Recap post that gives a synopsis of all the major events in the past year.

New Application Options
A new page for applications has been added! In addition to the new page, there's been a couple changes put into place.

• We understand that characters that have been in the game long enough to acquire a lot of regain points have a huge advantage over newer characters. So to help even things a little, we've increased the amount of points/powers new characters get when they app. Paranormal AUs will start with 6 points to put into their backstory powers, Normal AUs will get 2 free 3-point regains, and OUs will be allowed to retain 1-3 abilities depending on the power level.
• As announced on the December AU workshop, Black Order and POKEGO members are now available to app for any player that's been in the game at least 3 months! More details about them can be read on the app page.

Town Events
We're deep into winter and it's a water month, so the month of January will be an extremely cold and snowy one! Be sure to bundle up! And just like last January to celebrate the cold, the Winter Carnival will be going on in Blue Fish Lake Park! Get out into the cold and enjoy yourselves!

In addition, starting in January the full moon will affect anyone with monster changes for canine, feline or bear. So during the dates of January 5-7th, people who fall under this category will begin having trouble controlling their more monstrous sides. If you don't know anyone of that persuasion, don't worry! There will be NPCs who are struggling with the same issue, so it's chaos for all!

Gate Event: The Zodiac Race
In honor of the Lunar New Year, this month's gate will be based on Chinese mythology! App users will be asked to help out in the annual Zodiac Race (the real zodiac not the corporation), in which they will be expected to escort their assigned Zodiac animal through a dangerous journey through some snowy, monster-filled mountains in order to complete the time honored race. The Zodiac animals that'll be assigned to the characters will be based on their birth year. If they were born outside of Earth's calendar, then you can either choose an animal that'd suit them or RNG it.

To help you get an idea of what having each animal is like, here is the list:

• Rat: Will ride upon you during the race. Clever and on high alert, the rat will warn you of any ambushes and potential shortcuts.
• Ox: Can be ridden or pull a sled. An animal with high endurance, it'll need to rest less than other animals.
• Tiger: It's a tiger. It'll help fighting any demons and may even pull a sled. For your own safety, keep it well fed.
• Rabbit: Can be carried, ride in a sled or hop along. You seem to be luckier in small ways throughout the trip.
• Dragon: An eastern dragon about the size of a tiger. Cannot breathe fire and can only fly short distances. It'll help with fighting any demons and may pull the sled, will not allow you to ride it and tends to be prideful. Please keep it fed.
• Snake: Unfortunately due to the cold weather, the snake is useless and will try to hibernate the whole time. Using your own body to warm the snake will bring luck though and you don't have to feed him.
• Horse: Can be ridden or pull a sled. Faster than the ox, but needs to rest more often.
• Ram: Has a very easy-going temperament. Can pull the sled and has horns it'll headbutt into demons. Also fluffy.
• Monkey: A monkey that'll ride on you or in a sled, and can use tools to help out. Unfortunately, it gets easily bored and is prone to pulling pranks.
• Rooster: It's a chicken. However if you hold onto its feet, it can fly you short distances. Will always wake you up early.
• Dog: A good boy. Can do all the things dogs can do, including helping with demon fights and pulling the sled.
• Boar: While more stubborn, the boar can also pull the sled and do many things that dogs can do. Will charge at demons.

Due to the danger level of this plot, any character who is 15 years or younger will require an older chaperone to be with them. Characters in general are allowed to team up to make their journey and animal wrangling easier!

As a reward for participating in the race, characters will either receive a generous amount of money ($8,000) or be offered a peach of immortality. If the peach is consumed, it will make the character unable to die - however it will come at a hefty cost of being permanently tied to the Spirit Realm. This means OU characters would be unable to return home and all characters will be unable to leave the city boundaries of Kaisou unless they're going into the Spirit Realm (because they need to stay near the Spirit Vein). These consequences would remain even if the character is dropped, so please consider carefully! If you choose to have a character consume the peach, please comment to the thread below!

Alternatively for you sneaky/morally dubious characters, you can choose an Option C in which you take a peach but give it over to the folks at the Zodiac Offices for their own enigmatic reasons. Characters who do this will be paid a much larger sum of money ($40,000), and may cause consequences down the line. If you choose this option, comment to the thread below!

Event Plans: Tsuna will participate in the race and he's got the Rooster for his trouble. So time for this kid to fly with the largely flightless birds! He will gladly take the money. Money's safe.

Part of me kind of wants to focus more on the monster changes she's dealing with, but having her go to the Spirit Realm would heighten that transformation, which would be fun to play around with. So having a reason for her to go into the Spirit Realm to participate in the race would help

Little does he know that his attempts to be normal will fall apart soon.

Event Plans: Since January is going to be a water month, Jamie’s water magic will be increased by ten fold and he might start to realize that having water magic isn’t so bad after all. He will be dragged into this zodiac race and, since his birth year now is in 2003 and not in 1980, he is on Ram season. And he just wants the money. No peaches please , he has not found that he was the Master of Death just yet.

In addition, Jamie might consider doing S-nobody's Business and Paranormal Slacktivity.

Until her baby sister Mirabel accidentally turned a marriage proposal dinner upside down and caused her to honestly admit her thoughts on it and her frustrations, giving her an epiphany to let her true rebellious self out there and go nuts with her gift’s potential.

Event Plans: Isa is participating the race and, because I did some headcanon birth year math, she is stuck with a Ram. And she wants to get the money instead. She is no trusting these immortality peaches one bit. She will also develop Earth magic even further with plants galore! And she is also open to do any quests too. She wants to get her Good Samaritan on.

Anything else? Let’s be honest, the mental image of Isa throwing rocks and boulders from vine slingshots is pretty hilarious on its own. It will happen someday soon.

Event Plans: It being his first full moon, Jun will definitely have trouble controlling his wolf form. So expect a white and green wolf with superstrength running around (GREAT). For the Zodiac race, he will be participating and getting a sheep! Probably best for him to team up with someone, though he'll sure try to do the whole thing hiding his identity under his knight uniform. Because he's just like this.

About: Elliot is the music teacher at Kaisou High as well as a talented musician in his own right. He lived a fairly normal life before the app, and has been cursed with a cat curse since last March. A curse that's been getting worse due to monster changes. Yay. He is a friendly and kind person that tries to do what's best for his students, but is also extremely anxious and may have murdered someone that one time. Also he's got some decent magic and healing spells.
Event Plans: Since Elliot's "monster form" is a housecat, he's going just spend the full moon in his house having the zoomies. As for the Zodiac race, he will be participating! He's the year of the dragon, so he'll be using that to help run a chaperone group for any students and teachers. best to work together guys!
Anything else? He's also down for side quests.

About: Suzume is a pseudo-OC from a JJBA fic, 'psuedo' being that technically it's...Star Platinum shoved into fleshy form, but the important part is that due to being a barely-there fighting spirit to begin with, the result is a relatively young child. She's been here for almost a full year now though (wow!), and over all the now '6' year old is a fairly bold, but over all well meaning little girl with the occasional temper streak...and a strangely quiet voice despite that fierceness of character. She's accompanied by an invisible guardian of sorts (....that's a Stand) she refers to as 'Hoshi', and when especially excited tends to activate the purely aesthetic bit of magic she got via gacha months and months ago- namely 'demon form' which is a vague way of saying 'Oh look! Now she actually LOOKS like Star Platinum!

Suzume has been staying in the Zodiac apartments ever since wandering into Kaisou, looked after by a rotation of Nannies (who she will without fail refer to as a singular unit), and attending the local elementary school. Sometimes she makes it through a Spirit Gate! Fortunately, she tends to be accompanied by someone, thank goodness!

Recent months have gone pretty pleasantly for her in any case, with her and her big ol' Stoutland 'Mooland' having a fairly nice holiday.

Also- though this is even more minor- she got dreamwalking from the gacha as well! So you're free to have your character have just encountered this random little child in their dreams at some point in passing. It's probably nothing but a dream after all! (...Surprise!)

Event Plans: So this is a pretty hazy one on the main event end, what with it being dangerous enough to require the presence of a chaperone. At the moment, whether or not Suzume will attend the race at all currently hinges on the details of the race itself. If there's a certain amount of danger that simply cannot be avoided or hidden from, she's not going- end of story!

In the event that she DOES go, it turns out that both the year she'd have been made a squishy little human (2012) and the year Star Platinum first manifested wholesale (1988) are both the year of the Dragon! ....Which essentially means that if she's going, both she and her chaperone (Hi Kakyoin) just have to. Deal with that, I guess!

If she Doesn't go- first of all I'll probably be looking into having her tag along with someone on a nice simple side-quest. Maybe some ghost house cleaning, or faerie treasure hunting. The fae were pretty fond of the kid so hey! Maybe she'll bring you luck?*

Second of all though, you can definitely expect a top level with prompts for the Winter Carnival, as now that I'm finally free from the gradual avalanche that was the autumn-to-christmas work rush in my department, I am very excited to do more than idly backtag dusty threads.

Danny will be getting his first monster transformation regains. He's going the Fae route, and starting out with pointed ears and a severe allergy to iron. He may be searching for comfortable gloves, because iron alloys are everywhere

His issues with the memory about his Bad Future that he regained a few months ago are becoming more obvious. He's going to take any comments about destiny, fate or inevitability very badly.

Danny regained the Fenton Thermos last month, so of course this month he's going to manage to get himself stuck inside it while investigating. Any volunteers to figure out how to let him out?

As always, Danny is available for side quests. Looking for partners for Luck of the Fey and Paranormal Slacktivity, because both are highly appropriate for him right now.

Which means he's got his work cut out for himself as a paranormal investigator...but at least he has a few things to help him out, like the powers Charon has granted him.

Event Plans:
I JUST GOT HERE SO BEAR WITH ME IF YOU'LL PLEASE...I'm looking for Nick to meet new people and to settle into the game! I'm still a bit undecided on whether Nick will be participating in the race, but if he does, he'll be tromping through the snow on a Horse! Which is funny because he is terrified of horses and hardly knows how to ride one.

Besides this, I'm interested in sending him on a side quest! I think I'm partial either Paranormal Slacktivity (since that goes nicely with his contract price) or maybe even...We Didn't Start the Fire??? (he was made for investigation babeyyy). Bear in mind he does have slight a luck debuff, cus I thought it was funny. But if you have other ideas, I'll be down for anything!

I'm leaning strongly towards tiger for him, as according to atchronology.com that should be Finn's zodiac animal. It'll be that or the dog, but tiger is funnier since he won't have to worry about it trying to eat him.

I'm probably going to skip any sidequests this month in favour of a lil mini quest of Fern's own to finally go pick up a pokemon! I've been meaning for him to get a fomantis for several months and now that rl is calming down this will be a good time.

Event Plans: Varian's a werewolf so he'll definitely be having a bad time of it for his first full moon. Those close CR his wolfy brain considers part of his pack (I've helpfully marked them on his CR chart) will have a MUCH easier time reigning him in than those who aren't. But hey non-close CR is totally welcome to run into him too, bring it on!
He will be going into the spirit realm (even if it means he's stuck with his monster changes he's got some FEELINGS about while there) and based on the vague understanding of when Tangled is set/when he would have been born he'll have a rat. Given he usually has a pet raccoon with him, this won't surprise him honestly. He'll be taking the money because he DEFINITELY doesn't want immortality and he's still kinda salty at Zodiac so he won't sell it to them. He'll probably start building a death trap car with it.
I'm down for some side quests! He'll definitely be more drawn to S-nobody's Business and Luck of the Fey - but he can be dragged into any of them honestly if someone's persuasive enough.

WHICH MEANS I will also have her be getting into her Earth powers QUITE SUDDENLY now that she's got the giant emotional pressure to just SURVIVE gone. Sudden plant and gem control here we come. Snow is still her sweet, giving, and considerate self.
Event Plans: Snow just turned 15 so she will need a chaperone for her and her boar (who is gonna be putty in Snow's hands). She plans to donate the money cause well, again, heiress.

Snow has her ability to speak and summon animals so if you want help she's your gal!

About: Gregarious, generous and bubbly English woman who moved to Kaisou a few years ago and opened a shop selling art supplies and books. She's now attuned to the Wind element and is still trying to figure out how all that works. Married to Hypnos, very obviously and grossly in love with him. Enjoys getting involved in art projects in collaboration with the high school and often volunteers supplies at a discount as well as her own free time.
Event Plans: Since it's so cold and snowy, there will be a small selection of hats, gloves and scarves available in the shop on a rack near the door. The Winter Carnival also sounds like great fun, and honestly she probably goes every year anyway! RE the event, being born in 1998 Kaisou-time, Jane will be getting the Tiger. She'll be available to team up or chaperone one of the younger kids, and she might not be above employing slightly underhanded tactics to win. She can be very competitive, and it do be like that.
Anything else? Jane will be posting about some painting classes in the new year, to be held in her shop! Unless the interest is higher than she thought, in which case she might have to look at another venue.

About: A quiet young Colombian woman who hears basically everything going on within a two mile radius. Excellent dancer. Currently has some intense sads after losing a good number of her family all at once, right after she got back to Kaisou again. Safe to say it's not a great Christmas for her, though she's trying to keep her chin up. Now attuned to the Fire element and has been working on it, thankfully has not set too many things on fire.
Event Plans: Dolores is not going to be coping well in the cold/snowy weather and will be bundled up against it to a quite frankly ridiculous degree should anyone see her outside. Not being 100% sure of Dolores' birth year, she's going to be getting the Rabbit for her participation in the race! Like Jane she's also available for teams and chaperoning, bc where's the fun in this if you do it all by yourself?
Anything else? She will be continuing her explorations into social media, if anyone would like to help (or hinder) said explorations. Dolores can also hear things for, literally, miles around. If anyone would like her to overhear something she shouldn't, then I'm down!

About: A seven-foot tall, very stoic death god with a chronic resting bitch face. Actually nicer than he appears, if you don't mind taking the time to get to know him a little (and that, I'm afraid, is not easy... but not impossible!). Doesn't suffer fools and tends to teleport out of uncomfortable conversations/arguments. Hopelessly in love with Zagreus and hasn't told him yet.
Event Plans: This grumpy guy would, unfortunately, need to be persuaded to join in the fun. However, should he be so persuaded, his own zodiac animal will turn out to be the Dog! This delicious irony brought to you by the release year of his canon. Said Dog will indeed be a Very Good Boy and can facilitate any attempts to persuade this stoic death god to have a good time.
Anything else? Still getting used to this Being Perceived thing and he really isn't very good at responding appropriately when people are nice to him/concerned about him. Which obviously means people should do it more.

Event Plans: Souta is the year of the rat, but he won't be joining in the race. Instead he'll be hunkering down for the winter weather and learning to care for his new pet Kyupi. He will be open to side quests however!
Anything else? This year I'm hoping he might get to learn how to cook if anyone is interested in CR teaching a teen new living skills.

About: Eve was made as a prototype bioweapon for a dubious weapon's dealer. Luckily, a team of sweepers (bounty hunters) swooped in and freed her from a life of killing. A slightly odd kid thanks to many years isolated from the world, she is quiet yet curious about almost everything. Eve loves books and people watching.
Event Plans: That monetary reward will be extremely enticing to someone used to traveling in debt, so she will be aiming to join the race. Even if that means roping someone into letting her in the danger zone. Don't worry, she can handle it! As a OU from slightly different world, her randomly assigned Zodiac will likely be the horse.
Anything else? She is also open to fight club training and side quests. Got to work on her bounty hunting!

Currently still attempting to find hobbies but he has begun working at the local book store, so it's likely he's been seen by anyone who frequents there tidying up the top shelves cause ya boi is 6'7".

Event Plans: So he's obviously going to get pulled into these zodiac races because all it takes is someone asking him very nicely for him to say yes. I used his age + Kaisou year to pick his animal which is the Ram so I guess you can say he'll be Ramming through the competition. He does have a bit of a competitive side to him, but he also just wants to make sure people are safe cause that's what tanks do!! His sister told him so.

That said, the past couple months have been a huge bust for ol' Bon so I wanna get him out there more. I also want to branch out with more CR. And at some point I will hit up the side quests this month too. He also hates the cold with a passion but he will never admit it.

About: Crito is a weird and silly little guy who has been raised to deal with the dead pretty much exclusively. They act as a shepherd for wayward ghosties and such, and despite their everything take this job fairly seriously considering it’s the one thing their parent wanted of them before abandoning them. On the side they run a model train shop, and take the supernatural occurrences in Kaisou pretty well - maybe too well. Maybe they could stand to care a bit more. Or at least act like it.
Event Plans: I think Crito’ll participate in the race for a laff, with a rabbit so they won’t be getting anywhere fast (not that they care to). Since I’m new here I’m just gonna focus on getting them settled in apart from that, but feel free to hit me up with any plans/ideas!
