Welcome to the January Handwaved CR & AU workshop for Kaisou! We're super excited to have you! These posts are to help encourage old and new players to make new connections and find potential CR while designing your AU or figuring out what your OU character has been up to. If you're brand news, you can check out FAQ page and the app page to get a sense of what's going on!

If you're a player looking to app a new character:
Apps are always open for submission and get done the first and third weekends of the month. So once you got a clear idea of what you want, feel free to hop over to the application page! If you're already in the game, feel free to comment to this post as well to make new CR!

A reminder that in order to app either a Black Order or POKEGO AU you are required to have been in the game at least 3 months with another character. If you are rejoining the game after being gone awhile, you can count your past stint towards your 3 months, but it's recommended you look over the plot recap to see what you missed.

Character Name: Dr. Veritas Ratio
Canon: Honkai: Star Rail
Age: 30 (no canon age given)
Type: Normal AU

About: Up until six months ago he was a well-published physicist who dropped out of the public eye a few years back (if you're nerdy enough to know living physicists by name you've probably heard of him) and an otherwise perfectly ordinary - if incredibly strict and rather dramatic - college professor. Adapting to magic being real is...an ongoing process.
Typical Activities: He teaches math and physics at the university, and most of his day-to-day CR will probably come from that. If your character has been involved in mundane sciences they might have worked together in the past, or people around the same age might have known him in college. He's also starting to pick up archery this year, so non-university people could probably run into him at the shooting range.

Looking for: Are you taking his classes? Avoiding taking his classes because of his reputation as a hardass? Hanging around the university campus regularly for other reasons? Basically if they're around Kaisou University a lot they've probably seen him around and we should compare notes.

gods I feel like Yuuki takes his classes right now for elective (he's in for compsci) and is probably one of the students who just. is one of those clearly bored but knows their shit students? Ash is also in college and is a nerd but like is a literature/history nerd so idk if there'd be any teacher-student overlap there

Ratio can and will target students he feels aren't being challenged enough, so he's probably grading Yuuki extra hard and/or calling on him for tough questions, singling him out if he seems tuned out, etc. Needling him enough to try and make him mad so he'll work harder out of spite

Ash he might have only seen in the halls, but he does do a short philosophy and ethics class during summer semester that might be more appealing to a humanities student

he will try to tip that discount amount back to Caleb, on the basis that the guy working Doordash needs it more than the guy with a rich boyfriend

So Fugo is definitely 1. nerdy enough to know living physicists by name and 2. definitely taking Ratio's classes.

He's not only an attentive and diligent student, but also very enthusiastic about it (and about learning, in general). He's also probably poked somewhat worriedly after September and October.

Congrats Fugo, your professor's kinda famous, inasmuch as scientists are famous! Weird that he sort of stopped taking on high-profile projects in his late 20s and came back to focus entirely on teaching, but at least you're the one benefiting from that choice.

His response to the check-in in September would have been exasperated but perfectly fine - just very annoyed at having missed the start of the semester. October...well, he's grateful for the concern and he's got people to lean on. He does seem to be gradually bouncing back over the past couple months, anyway.

Jun is probably in a couple of his math classes in order to graduate. He didn't talk a whole lot in class, and was very much an average student. Sometimes he might see him hanging out with Varian as well on campus! But yeah Jun tends to keep his head down.

Jun has been clocked as "Varian's less studious friend", and no additional attention will be paid to him unless he earns it somehow.

Varian takes BOTH his classes and absolutely loves the hardass approach. He comes in heaving read ALL the material and has a MILLION questions about a thing. He's one of those terrible nerds who keeps suggesting a pop quiz every few weeks. He's so goddamn extra all the time and Ratio doesn't deserve this.

Ratio doesn't play favorites, or at least not in the way most people think of it. He'll answer the questions he thinks are worth answering, up to a point, and then tell Varian to sit down because they do have a class to get to. He'll definitely emphasize that the students' opinions of pop quizzes, whether favorable or not, have no bearing on when he chooses to deliver them, and asking for more does not earn you any points - the purpose of this class is to teach you, not to grade you, and the distinction is important.

This is actually how he treats a favorite student. Sorry.

Character Name: Maxima quo Priscus
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Age: 34
Type: OU

About: A citizen of the evil empire from a Final Fantasy game, the son of a pair of radical political reformers who passed their values along to him. He expected to continue their fight until the Empire killed him for it, but instead the Empire fell apart first, and while he was in the process of helping the remnants pull themselves together, he got brought here instead.
Typical Activities: Maxima lives down in the Fortress of Meropide and is generally a good resource for helping people out/keeping things down there from getting out of hand/running errands as needed. He's also taken to spending free time at the Vogue.

Looking for: Since arriving in Kaisou, Maxima is unwinding out of survival mode for the first time in years, and he could use more hobbies and stuff to do with his downtime! Yusuke is teaching him to paint and Rose was introducing him to the concept of anime, but he's still very much learning what sorts of things he might like to do outside of working.

Rose spends a lot of time at Meropide and would absolutely be down to help Maxima out.

She's probably spent some time with him at the Vogue, too!

Absolutely, they can be hanging out pretty regularly. I remember at some point you said she was gonna invite him to anime night too.

Fortress buddies! I'll be real Jun has probably caught onto Maxima's tendency to want to help out, ergo he will definitely indulge this by not telling Maxima that even though he's short- he's more than capable of getting things from high places due to being able to levitate/has master-level telekinesis.

Maxima is a good boy so why ruin that for him.

Jun is sweet for that, really. Even if he knew, Maxima would probably still offer to get stuff off the high shelves for him, partly because he does like to be useful and partly because he still does this for everyone else, it'd feel rude not to do it for Jun too.

Anyway Jun is rapidly approaching like. is this what it's like to have a younger sibling? even though there's more than ten years between them, so he's inclined to be a little indulgent.

Zulius has ABSOLUTELY clocked Maxima as A Regular at this point and will absolutely drop by to say hi and gossip a little when he shows up. Zules even gives him a drink on the house now and again!

Naturally, he runs into Varian a bit in Meropede too. Varian is SHORT and scared of heights so he likely asks Maxima's help in reaching stuff from high shelves a lot. He sent him a gift basket after the whole biting incident and is probably still a little awkward around him, he's sorry about that :(

He is here for the gossip! Maxima has more of a mischievous side than he lets on, when he's finally persuaded to relax a little - he absolutely wants to hear all the 'tea' and will happily indulge Zulius in this.

As noted above, he gets stuff off high shelves for everyone with no complaints whatsoever. He's had enough time to get used to the ears by now, mostly, and the canine transformation is useful, so he's not mad at Varian about it. The fact that people get this stuff all the time even without the werewolf bites also helps - who can say it wouldn't have happened anyway?

I don't think we ever got around to specifics per se! We can see who's likely to wind up in the same place at the same time and go from there, maybe?

Character Name: Chang Baizhu (Baizhu)
Canon: Genshin Impact
Age: 32 (no canon age given)
Type: Ronin AU

About: Baizhu died of illness at 16 and was brought back possessed by a snake spirit. Some months later some scary people came looking for him and, long story short, he got put in touch with Hua Cheng who helped him get away before The Black Order could get their hands on him. He then spent the next sixteen years on the run, working for various shady groups under Hua Cheng's protection, and moved into Kaisou after the rebellion made it safe to finally stop running.
Typical Activities: Currently Baizhu is the owner and operator of Bubu Pharmacy (as in canon), purveyor of both mundane and magical prescriptions and, now that it's owned by a real healer, a kind of unofficial urgent care clinic. When his health allows (aka his brain ghost isn't pitching a fit about it) he also makes house calls to various places in Ghost City where maybe people don't want to venture out to be seen.

Looking for: Do you have a regular prescription? Do you get beaten up a lot and need to drop by to get minor injuries treated? Stop by to chat about herbal medicine for any other reasons? I'm interested in getting him out and about more so I'm open to suggestions here, too.

Thinking on it and I feel like Josuke probably frequents the pharmacy both to stock up on supplies for anything that needs more mundane healing than magical and to chat about herbal medicine because Josuke's always looking to learn more.

Excellent, yes! Baizhu is more than happy to talk shop and trade tips. All of his knowledge is self-taught because he hasn't been in formal education since he was a teenager, so he's always interested in comparing notes with people who have had different resources available.

So while Zelos has a DIY keycrest that'll prevent him from going full zombie angel... it's a makeshift one made from Everstone from the Kanto realm. As such it doesn't work as well as one made with proper inhibitor ore, and Zelos still deals with symptoms like a reduced appetite, reduced ability to sleep, and most important- a reduced sense of touch.

Because of that, Zelos is probably a regular customer to Bubu Pharmacy to pick supplies to help him - whether it be sleeping pills to help him actually sleep a full night or something to help him keep down food, or just first aid stuff because he didn't notice the pan was scaling hot when he touched it.

He'll be kinda dodgy to why he HAS these symptoms, since he really doesn't want this world to know about Cruxis Crystals, but if pressed he'd probably say it's the consequences of messing around with a cursed artifact when he was younger - aka a version of the truth.

He'll also always come alone and be keen on keeping his situation quiet, because he really doesn't want to worry his CR about it. Chosens are gonna Chosen.

Oh, I like this idea! Poor Zelos.

The 'cursed artifact' explanation will satisfy Baizhu, who is primarily looking for enough information to make sure he can tailor his treatments as effectively as possible to the patient. He would have offered to look into the possibility of removing the curse if Zelos ever does feel more comfortable discussing the origins of it in more detail, but there's no pressure toward that - the most important thing is that Zelos continue coming for help when he needs it. He definitely won't gossip about the situation - patient privacy is very important!

Basically, he'll try to keep tabs on Zelos' symptoms and ask about the effectiveness of different treatments, and he'll be very clear and honest with him that any questions he's asking are just because he wants to help him manage his condition as comfortably as he can.
